He informed us they were indeed aware of our dog and the pilot would be ensuring the hold is at a comfortable temperature for our pup. We did upon boarding flag down the flight attendant to let him know our dog was in the hold so the pilot was reminded. Once landed we went to standard baggage claim and there was a separate area for oversized luggage and that’s where we picked him up almost immediately when we got there. This all happened prior to us going through TSA security and going to the gate. The luggage handler then took the kennel and loaded him directly onto the plane through another entrance to the tarmac. The TSA agent checked the kennel then we had to put our dog in and zip tie the door closed. We came back to the check-in desk and someone walked us to a special TSA checkpoint for oversized luggage. We were told we could come back 1.5hrs before boarding so we walked our dog around the airport until then. We asked when our dog needed to be in the kennel as we wanted to minimize the time for him to be in the kennel prior to take off. After checking our bags, they checked our dogs paperwork and the kennel. As for check-in, we had to be at the check-in counter 3hrs before the flight. He didn’t go to the bathroom at all in the kennel, but when he landed, he probably drank about 5 bowls of water since no water was given to him during the flight (as expected). Our vet provided some medication for him which helped keep him relaxed but not totally knocked out. Our dog did great but was about 14hrs in the kennel. My understanding was that yes, the hold is different then regular baggage since the hold is pressurized and climate controlled by the pilot. No need to post a comment unless you can shed a bit of light on the question! Like I said the journey is unavoidable so I don't need comments telling me how awful I am for doing it, and I won't be engaging with any posts of that nature. I've done as much research as possible into how to safely and comfortably transport the dog so I don't need help with that, just with how on earth I add her to my booking! Lufthansa is not an option, as it would mean multiple layovers which I think would be bad. I've been going round in circles for the last 3 weeks and I'm at the end of my rope now! Would love to hear from someone who's used AirFrance with a pet and who'd be happy to share exactly what process they had to follow :-) I'd be so grateful for any help or info as I can't get any from the airline. Has anyone successfully done this? And if so, how? I can't get any information from the airline about how to add the dog to my booking.who deals with it? The airline, or a 3rd party?Įdit: flying from Romania to Costa Rica, via Paris Thank you for all the kind replies and helpful advice UPDATE - DID IT! □.I called a different number and they added her.
